Pay attention in your online banking

23 June 2008

Online banking is generally quite straightforward, but this simplicity can also lead to a larger number of mistakes if it causes you to not pay attention to your actions. While most online banking systems will ask you to confirm transactions before they are carried through, it is surprising how many people do not go over the details again before confirmation.

A minor error can become a major one if you have set up a direct debit schedule incorrectly. Perhaps you meant to transfer $200 onto your credit card each month, but are accidentally transferring only $100. It's not too difficult to believe that you may just assume you are overspending rather than noticing that the transfer is not repaying enough of your debt.

Just by taking a few extra seconds to make sure you have filled in details correctly can save you a lot of grief in your online banking.
